About the region : Sendai, also called 'Mori no Miyako' ( City of Trees ), is located in Miyagi Prefecture, which is in the north-eastern part of Japan.
Since around 1600 A.D., the city of Sendai has been flourishing as the castle town of Date Masamune, Japanese feudal lord who reigned the region. After 390 years, Sendai now has a population of about 1,000,000, establishing itself as thw central city of the Tohoku (north-eastern part) region.
The city continues to expand in political, economic, cultural and many other aspect.
We also have many beautiful sightseeing spots aroun Sendai. Matsushima, where more than 260 islands are seen in the bay, is known as one of the three most scenic places in Japan.
Around Matsushima, you can enjoy the view, eat delicious fresh fish and oysters, and visit many historical places. For example, the Zuiganji Temple, built in 828 A.D., is the Date's family temple and remains the most famous Zen temple in the Tohoku region.
About the exchanges : If the ambassadors arrive at Narita, some representatoves from our club will greet them at the airport and guide them to Sendai via Shinkansen.
